Does anyone know how the name ACCPAC was derived? I do, but before I divulge the answer, I'd like some guesses.

And please don't google it before you guess. I want to hear unvarnished replies.

Bored, Steve?
ACC-ounting PAC-kage

As many of you know, ACCPAC Plus was the successor name to Sorcim IUS accounting software when Computer Associates acquired Sorcim.
Who knows what 'IUS' stands for?
Where is the name Sorcim from?
What was Sorcim's big product?

Hi Howard

That's what I thought but that would have been too easy for a trivia question.

I'll wait for other guesses.

Actually the original product was called Easy Business Systems and it was renamed to ACCPAC Plus in 1987.

It was always called Accpac in Canada. I won't answer because I'm old enough to know all the history. However, I will correct misapprehension!

The answer is:

A Complete and Comprehensive Program for Accounting Control

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sage_300_ERP (to the extent that you believe in the authority of Wikipedia)

Andrew - do you disagree?

Nope. I'm with Howard (and I know the guys that wrote version 1.0). "Accpac" (or "ACCPAC") was never an acronym.

Remember, in Accpac you used to "fetch" a specification. Language use is a little different north of the 49th.
