I have the Accountants edition 2007 running on a XP Professional operating system. Now when I open the data my data gets scrambled. My GL accouts become inactive, and it goes to a cash basis accounting system from the accrual. I have another computer that runs the data fine. I have tried installing merely the workstation components and using both machines to acces the data. I have also done the full install on the computer and accessed the data on the other computer. Then I finally put the data on the problem workstation with the full install. Nothing changed. Everytime the data corrupted. I even opened the sample data and said I wanted the accral basis acounting, and it changed it, and made the GL accounts inactive. Please help.

Are you opening a .sdb file from a client, or are you restoring a backup file the client created with the "make accountant's copy" feature?

If the latter, you will find that many fuctions are disabled including adding accounts and creating or editing any transactions in subledgers.

Since you are entitled to use the Accountant's edition, you can also get support from Simply. Give their tech folks a call.

Thank you for taking the time to respond Ralph.

I haven't used the "make accountants copy function". I have been opening the .sdb files.

The big test was that I opened the sample data and it corrupted on me. All the GL accounts became inactive, and the data changed to cash-basis accounting rather then the accrual.

Are there some system settings that I need to change on the computer.

Uncheck the box under System / Settings / General / Corrupt data upon opening. --- Okay, I'm kidding

There is nothing in the software that I can see that would make these kinds of changes to the data.

Are you and the client on the same service pack level (check the letter after the version number under Help / About)? But even if this is not the same, it does not explain the problem with the sample data.

What happens if you temporarily turn off your anti-virus software and then start Simply and open the data?

Can you tell us about the computer you are using? Memory, free disk space, Windows version and anything else that might be relevant?

If you have the Pro or Premium version, you have to open it in Single-user mode for many of those functions.

A database that shows this has had one of its main internal tables corrupted. This cannot be fixed from within the software as some of the options with incorrect values are not modifiable from within Simply.

Are you saying that one particular machine corrupts any dataset it opens?

I ask as we have seen this corruption a number of times and would really like to pin it down to a specific hardware/software cause.
